Most of them have social work backgrounds and/or training in family counseling. The initial meeting is a two hour, one-on-one consultation that allows you to ask questions and share with the care consultant what is important to you. This is your journey and we are here to advocate and help you reach your optimum choices. It is very important to remember that this is your journey and these choices are subjective and individual.[/fusion_text][fusion_text]First Session:  Your Doulagiver Care Consultant conducts a two hour, one-on-one, personal consultation to discuss options for end of life and explain what these options mean. Many people are not fully aware that they have choices regarding care that they can choose now for when they are older. By completing an Advance Directive form, you can ensure that your end of life is the way you want it. This is a legal document that does not need to be done by an attorney. It requires two witnesses and needs to be an Advance Directive form for the state where you reside. Your Doulagiver Care Consultant will supply these forms and explain all the options available to you. In addition, your Doula will help explore an end of life living plan. This consists of where you would want to live in your last years of life and what is needed to make that possible.[/fusion_text][fusion_text]Additional Doulagiver Care Consulting Sessions: End of life planning can be difficult, but it is one of the greatest gifts that you can do for yourself and your family. Making well thought-out choices for what you want or do not want for end of life (while you are in good health) ensures that you have your wishes honored. It also does not leave the burden to be decided by your loved ones. Loved ones usually never unanimously agree upon these decisions. This often times leads to family disagreements and discourse. This is NEVER a time when family should be arguing. Your Doulagiver Care Consultant can facilitate family meetings to discuss and help explain the choices that you have made and why these choices are important to you. It is extremely important to allow all family members to ask questions and understand your wishes fully.[/fusion_text][fusion_text]The Plan– Depending on your wishes, your Doulagiver Care Consultant will work with you to anticipate what you may need in the future in order to live the way you optimally want to live. This may involve hiring of part time help, adjusting your home to be more easily livable, or even a change in where you reside if such a situation presents itself.

“It is with the right compassion, support and guidance that we can have a wonderful elder phase of life.”
